Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga hotels

There is a new project started near Kaziranga National Park, in the Karbi Anglong region of Assam, India. This project introduces solar power to homestays in the region. Solar power refers to using sunlight to generate electricity. Solar power is clean and safe to use without damaging the environment. This is beneficial for nature and also for people who reside in the region. Most of the families in this area make their income from agriculture and tourism. Using solar power, homestay owners are able to provide a better service to tourists. This may make them earn more. Meanwhile, this place has significant animals such as rhinos, elephants, and tigers. That is why nature must be protected while local people enjoy a better life. This project does both. It provides humans with clean energy and greater opportunities to earn, and it also protects the environment for animals and generations to come.

About The Group ‘Aaranyak’

Aaranyak is the name of the group running this project. Aaranyak is a well-known organization in Assam. It works to protect forests and animals. At the same time, Aaranyak helps people living near these forests. They believe that people and nature can grow together. Aaranyak provided solar inverters to five homestays. These inverters help change sunlight into power for daily use. This electricity can then be used to run lights, fans, and charge phones or other devices. This is helpful in places where power cuts happen often. This small help supports Aaranyak’s larger goal for clean energy. Aaranyak wants to take care of nature and also help the people who live close to nature.

Where the Homestays Are Located

These five homestays are in Kohora village. Kohora is in Assam’s Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong area. It is located very close to Kaziranga National Park. Kaziranga National Park is famous all over the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists visit to see one-horned rhinoceroses. Other animals like elephants, tigers, and wild buffalo also live here. Tourism is very important in this area. When visitors come, they stay in local homestays or Kaziranga hotels. These homestays and Kaziranga hotels give guests a chance to learn about local culture and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Tourism also helps local people earn money. That is why making homestays and hotels better is very important.

Homestays That Got Solar Inverters

Five homestays received solar inverters in this project. Their names are:

  • Margaret Homestay
  • Preity Homestay
  • Anjana Homestay
  • Kareng Homestay
  • Charne Homestay

These homestays are small and run by local families. Many tourists, including people from cities and other countries, stay in these places near Kaziranga National Park. With the help of solar power, the homestays can now give better service to their guests. They can have lights at night, fans during the day, and power to charge phones and use other small machines.

Why Solar Inverters Are Useful

In many parts of this region, electricity is not available all the time. Power cuts happen often. This is a big problem for homestays. Tourists expect basic things like light, fans, and the ability to charge their phones. When there is no power, guests can feel unhappy. Solar inverters solve this problem. These machines use sunlight to make electricity. Sunlight is available on most days in this region. So, solar power can give steady and clean electricity. It can reduce the need for using diesel generators or kerosene lamps. These other sources of power are not good for health and pollute the air. Solar energy helps both nature and people. It helps reduce pollution and gives better service to visitors staying in both homestays and Kaziranga hotels.

How This Helps Local People

The solar power project helps not just the homestays but also the families that run them. Many homestay owners are women. They are part of a local group called Kindulangso Self-Help Group. This group works with Aaranyak. They promote eco-tourism, which means tourism that does not harm the environment. With solar power, these women can run their homestays more smoothly. They can offer good service even when there are power cuts. This helps them earn more money. When guests are happy, they tell others, and more people come to visit. This also helps improve the role of women in the community. As they earn money and run their own businesses, they gain more respect. It makes their families stronger and helps their children, too. So, the project supports gender equality and family growth.

What Is The ‘Journey For Learning’ (J4L) Program

This solar power project is part of a bigger program by Aaranyak. Journey for Learning, also called J4L, is the program name. This program connects tourism, education, and nature protection. When visitors come under this program, they do not just travel. They also learn about the local area. They value local traditions and understand that the forest and animals are important. This makes the visit more meaningful. Tourists go back with new knowledge and respect for nature. The J4L program works outside Kaziranga National Park as well. It is also working in places like Bhuyanpara Range in Manas National Park and Bhairabkunda. All these places are important for wildlife. The J4L program helps protect these areas while helping local people earn money through tourism.

Nandita Das’s Visit

The project got more attention when a famous actor and filmmaker, Nandita Das, came to visit. She was present when the solar inverter was given to one of the homestays. Her visit was important. It helped more people in India learn about the project. When famous people support such programs, it becomes easier to reach bigger audiences. People start to notice the hard work being done by local communities. It also helps raise more support for such programs in the future.

Who Is Supporting This Project

Aaranyak is leading the project, but they are not working alone. Two big international organizations are helping them:

  • IUCN – KfW: This is a project by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and a bank in Germany called the German Development Bank (KfW).
  • US Fish and Wildlife Service: This is an American agency that works to protect wild animals and birds.

These groups are supporting the project with funds and advice. They want to support development that does not harm nature. They believe that people living near forests should also have better lives without cutting trees or harming animals.
