What makes these products different from other products sold in the area is that they are made from plastic waste. Rupjyoti Saikia Gogoi is a 47-year-old woman who realized the problem of plastic waste on the streets. She came up with a ground-breaking idea of turning this waste into traditional handloom products back in 2004. She thought of weaving the waste just like she would do with bamboo. By following some simple steps, she integrated plastic with cotton threads to weave different products on a primitive handloom and has been following it since then. She made it possible with the help of other nearby ladies. Now she is making it possible for uneducated rural women to earn and make a living on their own by teaching them the technique.
